Larian Studios Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team could be designing a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs only possible with a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
